do any kiddos like going to the doc's? ... my kiddo definately doesn't that's for sure. the other day josie went for her 15 month appt (even though she just turned 16 months) ... a basic visit with 2 shots. we were afraid we would get pressured to give her a flu shot also, but luckily we weren't. should of known better since my midwife/pediatrician doesn't even take one - even though she deals with sickness everyday.
so here's the scoop ...
head circumfrence: 18 3/4" - just above 90th percentile
height: almost 31" - 50th percentile
weight: 22 lbs - just below 25th percentile
so, we have an average height, skinny little peanut with lots of room for her big brain & smarts!
interesting part, josie is now old enough to hold her own with the the nurses & ped. she put up a pretty good fight when anyone got in her space ... think it's good that she can hold her own, but there is a time & place. needless to say a bit of a stressful visit for mama & baby ... & i even think a tiny bit for papa too ... even though he is usually cool as a cuke.
note to self: addition to the xmas list - a pretend doctor's kit so we can practice for next time.

Yup, doctor's kits are key, were have 3 of them here! Can't wait to see you guys and Miss Josie.
I learned from the nurses in the nursery that little ones can be stimulated to increase their pain threshold. They give infants what is for them a big dose of sugar that causes an endorphin rush before initial blood test after birth.
While this isn't as effective as they grow older, if your baby is old enough for some vigorous play it is a good substitute. Excite them by letting them fall backwards and catch them or turn them upside down or even toss them and catch them.
Get them worked up well enough and they will barely flinch at best and at worst a momentary squeal in my experience. Keep doing what you were doing immediately after.
And remember, they can sense your fear! :)
